Yaser Jabbar Great Ormond Street Scandal: Children’s Orthopaedic Surgery Review
Published: 28/10/26 By: Will Angood
Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust reviewed the treatment of children under former consultant orthopaedic surgeon Yaser Jabbar, who worked at the hospital between 2017 and 2022.
Why the review was launched
Concerns about Jabbar’s practice were raised in 2022, prompting a patient recall and an independent review of orthopaedic care. The hospital has publicly apologised to affected families and published findings and actions arising from the review.
Concerns for children and their families
Orthopaedic treatment may affect growth, mobility, pain, development and the need for further surgery. Families whose children were reviewed should seek a clear explanation of any findings about their child’s treatment, together with appropriate follow-up and independent medical advice.
Potential compensation and lifelong care
Where avoidable injury is established, compensation may address additional surgery, pain, mobility problems, specialist equipment, rehabilitation, education support, care and future financial needs. Cases involving permanent disability may require lifelong planning. Being part of a review does not mean negligence has been proven in every case.
How Medical Negligence Consultants can help
If you or a family member received treatment connected with these concerns, we can help you discuss your experience confidentially and seek advice from an appropriate specialist solicitor. A review, recall or disciplinary finding does not automatically establish an individual compensation claim: the treatment, any avoidable harm and relevant time limits must be assessed. We do not guarantee compensation or claim outcomes.
